How to Introduce Kids to Beekeeping (Without a Hive)

I want to to bring bee energy into the world, especially for children & young adults.

Not everyone plans to keep bees, and that’s more than okay. There is a lot of fear around bees, wasps & bugs at large. However, there are creative, meaningful ways to share bee knowledge with kids:

If you have children in your life, try these fun, hands-on activities:

  • Build a bee hotel – Great for solitary bees like mason bees

  • Create a pollinator scavenger hunt – Look for bees, butterflies, beetles

  • Start a mini garden – Wildflowers, herbs, and bee-friendly plants

  • Taste test different honeys – Talk about the plants bees may have visited

And of course… read bee-themed books or explore videos together.

It’s not about being a beekeeper — it’s about being curious and caring. That’s more than enough to inspire wonder.
