How Bees Keep the Hive at Exactly 95°F

You know what’s wild? No matter the season, no matter the weather outside, the inside of a beehive stays around 95°F (35°C) — the perfect temperature for raising baby bees.

How? Bee-powered climate control.

🐝 Cooling Down

When things heat up in summer, bees fan their wings in sync to circulate air — like tiny HVAC units. They also bring in water and spread it across the hive so it evaporates and cools things down (swamp cooler style).

🔥 Warming Up

In colder months, bees cluster together tightly around the queen and brood. They vibrate their wing muscles (without flying) to generate heat. Bees on the outside rotate with bees on the inside, so no one gets too cold for too long.

🧠 Why It’s Brilliant:

This kind of hive-wide teamwork shows how deeply interconnected bee society is. Every bee contributes. No one bee keeps the hive warm — the collective does.

A beehive reminds us that warmth, like care, is something we create together.
